West Mitten and the famous sandstone buttes of  the Navajo Nation's Monument Valley glow with red light as the sun peeks beneath the clouds just before sunset.  The spectacular scenery of Monument Valley has become an icon of the American West since director John Ford began filming movies here in the 1930s.
