Sugar Mill Ruins
Balenbouche Estate, St. Lucia
The serpentine roots of the ficus tree seem to be dismantling this sugar mill as nature reclaims what was made by man. Cane was refined into sugar and rum at this Caribbean plantation from as
early as the 1780 into the late nineteenth century. The red tinge comes from sunset hues reflected back from a low-lying cloud at just the right angle.
